Rory McIlroy on the Masters: "I wish I had put a bit more pressure on Patrick Reed early on in the fourth round"

Four time major winner Rory McIlroy is happy with his performance at the 2018 Masters despite coming up short in his attempt to complete the career Grand Slam.

The Northern Irishman started the final round three shots behind eventual winner Patrick Reed only for his challenge to fall apart on the famous Georgia course.

"I view Augusta as a very positive week. I put myself in a position to win another major. It didn't quite happen for me but the long list of positives far outweigh the negatives.

"I wish I had put a bit more pressure on Patrick Reed early on in the fourth round - I wasn't able to do it and that was really it. I've got three more chances this year - my game is obviously in great shape. I've won this year, I've given myself a chance in the first major and there's no reason I can't go to the other three and give myself three more chances.

"And, if I do that, I'll hopefully add to that tally," he added.

McIlroy was speaking at the launch of The JP McManus Pro-Am 2020 at Adare Manor which is due to take place on 6th &7th July 2020 at the Tom Fazio-redesigned championship course.

Speaking about the redevelopment of the Limerick course, he said: "I came here back in December and played the golf course and it felt like it was the middle of the summer the way the condition of the golf course was but I think everyone involved has done an unbelievable job - Tom Fazio, JP, to have the vision to create what is now here.

"I've played and competed at much worse venues in the Ryder Cup so I'd be very confident that this would be very successful."
