Shane Lowry makes solid start at Phoenix Open

Shane Lowry has made a solid start at the Phoenix Open to sit just four shots off the lead.

The Clara golfer started his round with a bogey and ended with one in a 2-under par round of 69.

Lowry carded birdies on the 2nd, 3rd and 5th holes, while he followed that up on the back nine with another birdie on the 10th.

Padraig Harrington is currently on level par as he passes the halfway mark on his front nine.

The three time major winner started off on the back nine, with a birdie and bogey on the 13th and 12th respectively.

Hideki Matsuyama leads after shooting a 6-under par opening round of 65. 

The Japanese golfer carded a bogey free round with birdies on the 3rd, 6th, 10th, 13th, 15th and 18th holes.

One shot behind is a three way tie for second on 5-under are Americans John Peterson, Robert Garrigus and Scott Brown as the trio stay in contention.

Brendan Steele is also on 5-under but is only passing the halfway mark of his front nine.
