Tiger Woods found 'asleep behind the wheel' by police

Police say they found Tiger Woods asleep behind the wheel and that he had the engine running when they came across his car in Florida.

Woods was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning in the US state on suspicion of driving under the influence and a police report released by authorities in the States say they found his car stopped on the hard shoulder.

In an affidavit released on Tuesday, police say Woods was wearing his seatbelt and had "extremely slow and slurred speech" when officers woke him.

The 14-time Major winner told officers that he had taken a number of prescriptions. In a statement released on Monday night, he claimed "alcohol was not involved".

He said: "What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realise the mix of medications had affected me so strongly."

The report filed by police claimed that Woods was confused and was unaware how far he was from his Hobe Sound home.

When conducting sobriety tests, police asked him if he understood the directions, to which he replied: "Yes, recite entire national anthem backwards."

Despite failing the roadside sobriety test, police say Woods was co-operative. Breath tests showed no alcohol in his system. Woods also agreed to a urine test.

His arraignment in Palm Beach County court on a DUI charge is scheduled for 5 July.
