WATCH: Tom Brady made his career bow for The New England Patriots 15 years ago this week

We all know how it started but could anyone have envisaged how the trajectory of Brady's career would go thereafter?

The 2001 NFL season was in its embryonic stages when New England Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe shipped a heavy hit from New York Jets linebacker Mo Lewis. The collision caused internal bleeding, although Bledsoe reports that he didn't feel any sensation until after the game. The medical team working on him were even contemplating opening his chest to assess his injury.

In short, he was lucky to survive the incident and was looking forward to the rest of his new 10 year deal with the Patriots worth $100m. But waiting in the wings to temporarily fill the void, was Tom Brady from Michigan who was pick 199 the year before.

His debut start interestingly, was against Indianapolis Colts on September 30th where he first encountered future nemesis Peyton Manning in a dominant 44-13 win. Brady threw for 168 yards on 13 completions in 23 attempts as part of the vicotry.

From there, Brady inspired the Patriots to shock the world of American Football and claim their first Superbowl victory in history via an Adam Vinatieri 48-yard field goal to win the game just as the clock approached zero.
