Tony Bellew broke his hand last night

Tony Bellew says he broke his hand in the early rounds of his surprise win over David Haye last night.

34-year-old Bellew eventually defeated Haye with a second knockdown the 11th round, which sent Haye stumbling into the ropes and prompted coach Shane McGuigan to throw in the towel.

Haye struggled for much of the fight, after suffering an Achilles injury in the sixth round and Bellew seized on the opportunity to stage an upset.

But the victory came at the expense of a broken hand for Bellew. He told BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek:

"I'm a bit sore as you'd expect after getting hit by a JCB truck but yes, we did receive injuries. I broke my right hand in the second or third round, it's very sore right now. It's the size of a small bowling ball. I don't feel the pain, all I think about is winning."

He went on to mention that he was suffering from a knee injury ahead of the bout, and complimented Haye for the fight he brought to the ring.

"I had a bad knee myself going in but this is not what people want to hear. This is why I asked David from the very start, 'are you ok'?"

"And believe you me for four rounds, he was fighting fast and hard, exactly like I predicted. It was about showing I'm better than everyone gives me credit for."

"I look easy to beat when you watch me on tape but getting in the ring and doing it with me is a whole different ball game."
