Speaking on the MMA Hour on Monday night, St. Pierre said that a return to the octagon was on the cards once there was a deal worked out between his management and the UFC.
Stating that he had been warned not to give too much away, as negotiations were still ongoing, St-Pierre said he was an emotional guy and wanted to let people know that he was returning.
St-Pierre's decision to take a break from the sport came in 2013 after his victory over Johny Hendricks, but now at the age of 35 he has decided to make a return.
He told Helwani that "I love my sport and I still feel I'm at my best right now. The clock is running. I'm not getting any younger. I'm in the peak of my career and if there is a shot, there is another goal, another run, I better do it and do it quick, because it is time to do it now."
He added that while he's aware that it will be difficult to get back in and fight, he has been training and trying to "push myself and go back to the highest level of competition. I didn't fight, but I put myself through a training camp and I sparred and everything, and I did it successfully. Now I know for a fact that I could go back and fight, if my management and the UFC get to an agreement."
St-Pierre said that he would come back for something big, and hinted that while there has been no contact with Michael Bisping (the new middleweight champion),that's the fight he would want. The question had been asked of Bisping before, to which the English fighter responded that he would make sure that any return from GSP would be short-lived.
"I don not believe that if I fight him he would send me back to a movie set," responded St-Pierre. Yes, he's bigger than me, but I believe I have more skill, more athleticism and a higher fighting IQ than he does."
St-Pierre also hinted that, given he went out as welterweight champion, he could return to that division or drop to the lightweight division easily, which could see him face off against Conor McGregor. However, he pinpointed that Bisping is the biggest name right now for him, and the man to beat.
