Nevin slams Suarez and time for Italian soul searching?

Luis Suarez' bite on Giorgio Chiellini will overshadow it somewhat, but Italy's World Cup has been a disappointment.

For the second consecutive tournament, the Azzurri go home at the group stage and to compound their misery, manager Cesare Prandelli has resigned.

Italian football writer Roberto Gotta believes Italians will focus on the controversy and excuses. But Gotta believes Italy have themselves to blame for the latest group stage exit.

"I don't think they prepared the World Cup in a way that would have seen them more offensive because they stressed the importance of keeping fit, and by keeping fit they meant not using too much energy so that when they had to, they could produce something brilliant. But other than that, the tried to keep the ball and not get tired too much which is silly."

Gotta had know arguments about the sending off for Claudio Marchisio but also spoke about Chiellini's reaction to the bite on Italian TV.

Pat Nevin was also at the game and he told us that Suarez should be booted out of the World Cup based on the bite and his prior history for similar offences.

"I've no idea what the ruling is going to be from FIFA other than one thing's imperative: He doesn't play in this World Cup again. Get him out, that's animalistic. It's not a fluke. It's not once, it's three times," Pat told us.
