England can build Euros side around Rice and Grealish | Phil Thompson

Phil Thompson joined The Football Show to unwittingly depress Republic of Ireland fans worldwide in saying that Jack Grealish can power this England side at Euro 2020.

The England squad for the tournament was announced this afternoon:

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson, Sam Johnstone, Jordan Pickford

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Chilwell, Conor Coady, Reece James, Harry Maguire, Tyrone Mings, Luke Shaw, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker

Midfielders: Jude Bellingham, Jordan Henderson, Mason Mount, Kalvin Philips, Declan Rice

Forwards: Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling.

Jack Grealish

It is Aston Villa's talisman Jack Grealish that Thompson believes can drive England on - and he wants Liverpool to sign him.

"It depends on the games. The three games they start with, I can see them having a lot of the ball. I know Croatia are a good outfit. But I think this [England] team can really play well.

"Declan Rice, who again plays a prominent part in what we're talking about with Grealish jumping ship, I do think that there is room for these mavericks.

"I just love Jack Grealish, I hope my football club has very much got their hat in the ring for this guy if he does think of moving. Phil Foden as well.

"You look at Rice being in there, and then work a team around Declan Rice. You can have one more attacking one in there beside him, then a three, then Harry Kane up front. There are so many permutations.

"If Jack Grealish is fit - and we will see that in the warm-up games - he makes things happen. He is one of those guys, the Gascoigne guy, who can get the ball 30 yards from goal, drive past somebody, draw free kicks or create something.

"He has got that little bit of magic, there are so many in there that can do things like that - young Saka as well."
