Galway Hurling Manager candidates withdraw interest

The three candidates for the Galway Senior Hurling position have reportedly all withdrawn from the running for the position.

Interviews with the candidates had expected to be set up imminently but this decision may now see the process to find a successor to Micheál Donoghue, who departed from the role in August, drawn-out much further.

Speaking on Galway Bay FM on Tuesday morning reporter Ollie Turner said it was a "somewhat chaotic" situation.

"As things stand the three nominees that were to go forward for interview for the Galway Senior Hurling Mnager's post have all withdrawn.

"We heard from Tony Ward yesterday afternoon to say he was withdrawing and that was soon followed yesterday evening, late enough, when we heard that Frannie Ford and Noel Larkin are both withdrawing as well.

"That leaves us in complete limbo now with none of the three prepared to be even be interviewed between the post.

"We can only read between the lines here and obviously see that there's serious friction going on and there are issues still to be resolved before any impasse can be broken and we move forward.

"It's really down to the committee now that were elected to interview candidates to report back and for the board to decide on the next step."

Elsewhere, interviews were held for the vacant Galway Senior Football manager's job on Monday evening with Kerry native and former Tipperary manager Liam Kearns and two-time All-Ireland winner with Galway Pádraic Joyce the only two candidates.
