'We had no answers' - Sheedy reflects as Galway dump Tipperary out of League

Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy says they can't make any excuses after they crashed out of the Allianz National Hurling League today.

The Premier lost to Galway by 8 points at Pearse Stadium where it finished up 3-21 to 3-13.

The All-Ireland champions Tipperary went in at half-time with a 7 point lead but did have to contest the wind after the break.

Two second-half goals from Conor Whelan and one from Cathal Mannion then sent Shane O'Neill’s men on the way to victory.

Speaking to Off The Ball at full-time, Sheedy said they simply were not good enough.

"It's always disappointing when you lose.

"We came up here with an intention of putting in a good performance. In the first half, we were very, very happy.

"You have to say though in that second half we were completely outplayed, Galway overran us and really took over in the middle third.

"When Galway play like that and the crowd gets behind them in Pearse Stadium, they're hard to stop.

"Once they got the momentum and went two points ahead we had no answer.

"You'd have to say we lost in every position on the pitch in the second half so that's something we have to work on. There has been days like that before so we have some learning experiences already.

"We've got a big build-up now, we've got nine weeks to knuckle down and get ready for Championship.

"That level of performance won't be anything like what's needed in the Munster Championship, but we know that."

The result means that Sheedy's side are out of the competition and now turn their attention to the summer.

Galway meanwhile have a trip to Wexford to look forward to as they aim to make the semi-finals.

Sheedy said that Galway were full value for their victory.

"Momentum is a great thing in sport and once Galway got the few scores and got the crowd behind them we couldn't really get our hands on the ball in that second half.

"For us, we've got to get primary possession, we've got to get our hands on the ball.

"Every time the ball was pucked out it was breaking and they were winning the breaks and we just weren't competitive at all in that second half, especially in the last 15-20 minutes.

"It was a sea of maroon that was coming at us.

"Full credit to Galway, they were very impressive in that second half, that's a really, really good team."
