Ian Keatley has confirmed his move to the Glasgow Warriors with immediate effect, after departing Benetton earlier this month.

The former Munster outhalf has linked up with the 2015 PRO12 winners on a six month deal, while they wait for the arrival of Duncan Weir from Worcester.

33-year-old Keatley ended his 18-month spell in Italy earlier this month, and will link straight up with the Warriors, who have struggled for outhalf cover this season, as Adam Hastings nurses a shoulder injury.

The Dubliner, who won the last of his seven international caps in 2017, says he's delighted to be able to get his season back on track.

"It’s a strange time to be joining the team with everything that’s going on with COVID, however I’m really happy to be joining a club and a city with a proud rugby history.

"I’m looking forward to being able to start on a fresh slate with Glasgow and I’m excited to begin working with Danny and his coaching team.

"This club is a top-quality outfit and I’m relishing the chance to be able to play alongside some of its top-quality talent," he says.

Glasgow head coach Danny Wilson says Ian Keatley's arrival will be of benefit to the club both on and off the pitch, acting as a mentor to up-and-coming flyhalf Ross Thompson.

"Ian Keatley has been a fantastic player over the years for Munster, Connacht and more recently at Benetton," said head coach Danny Wilson.

"His experience will be great from a performance point of view. He will also be invaluable to the development of our young players, including the likes of Ross Thompson, and also enable us to look at Pete [Horne] in his natural position of inside centre."
