Ice hockey player dies after being hit in the head with puck

A Russian ice hockey player has succumbed to head injuries received when he was hit in the head by a puck.
Dynamo St Petersburg's Timur Faizutdinov was hit in the head on 12 March, after a puck was hit from the neutral zone in a playoff match against Loko Yaroslavl in the Kontinental Hockey League.
"Dynamo Saint Petersburg defenseman Timur Faizutdinov has tragically passed away at the age of 19," his club tweeted.
"He had received a fatal head injury during an MHL match against Loko in Yaroslavl on March 12.
"SKA Hockey Club extends its deepest condolences to Timur’s family and friends."

Ice hockey tragedy

The KHL added their thoughts in a statement released on Tuesday.

"The Kontinental Hockey League is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of JHL Dynamo St. Petersburg player, Timur Fayzutdinov, after he sustained a head injury during a JHL fixture on 12th March.

We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

The playoff games on 17th and 18th March will be held in memory of him and will begin with a minute of silence."
