Irish former footballer arrested over €3m heroin discovery in Dublin - report

Reports have emerged that a former Irish professional footballer has been arrested over the seizure of heroin worth over €3m.

The Independent report the individual has been detained as part of a drug seizure in west of Dublin, which was conducted with the help of Revenue and agencies abroad.

Two men were arrested at the property in Dublin 15 yesterday evening, aged 31 and 41 years old.

The former footballer is believed to be the younger of the pair, and the Gardai now have seven days with which to question the two men.

Revenue reported on the raid on their website:

"As part of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers seized 22kg of suspected heroin, with an estimated value of €3 million (subject to confirmation through analysis), in the Dublin 15 area.

"The joint operation was conducted by Revenue’s Custom Service and An Garda Síochána through the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB). The collaboration between both agencies as well as international colleagues was significant in the successful outcome of this operation.

"Two men, aged 31 and 41, were arrested and are currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at Blanchardstown Garda Station.

"Investigations are ongoing."
