"It hasn't been great. It's not even been good" - Why Van Gaal can expect harsher scrutiny

The revolving door at Manchester United must have been almost placed into a tailspin today as the club made a number of sales and acquisitions.

Out go Adnan Januzaj (on loan) and Javier Hernandez, while goalkeeper David De Gea appears to be about to get his move to Real Madrid.

Real keeper Keylor Navas appears to be the consolation, while French striker Anthony Martial is another addition today ahead of tomorrow's transfer deadline.

But it is distracting from a chastening defeat at Swansea yesterday and United We Stand fanzine editor Andy Mitten says mediocrity is one word to describe Louis van Gaal's first season and a bit.

He told Off The Ball: "The mood has definitely turned. People are not saying that Van Gaal should be sacked but they're questioning him because yesterday was his 50th game in charge of Manchester United in 14 months and it hasn't been great. It's not even been good. It's been mediocre with a couple of memorable games."

Mitten also added that Van Gaal can be expected to be judged much more "harshly" this season in comparison to the transitional post-David Moyes campaign and that more will be expected than last season's fourth place finish.

Mitten also reviewed today's major transfer news at Man United and also gave his own personal take on meeting Keylor Navas on numerous occasions.
