James Horan: Cork have 'some fundamental flaws that will need to addressed'

Former Mayo manager James Horan believes Cork have "some fundamental flaws that will need to addressed" after their 1-21 to 2-7 defeat in the Allianz League Division 1 final.

The three-time Connacht championship winner was impressed by the Dubs and felt some of Cork's weaknesses were exposed as he told Off The Ball tonight.

"You can't throw everything out because of yesterday's game. Throughout the league, their inside guys were doing well and it was working for them. But it's funny how the league progresses. The league games are at a certain standard, teams are at a certain level, they're all at different fitness place, so yesterday's game in Croker - the pitch, Dublin getting stronger - it exposed ruthlessly some elements of Cork's game," he said, adding that Dublin's "ferocious" high press "rattled Cork to the very core".

Horan also name-checked Jonny Cooper and Cian O'Sullivan as defensive "heroes" for Dublin.

But he does believe the Dubs still have work to do to make sure they stay on the right track come championship time.

"No more than Brian [Cuthbert] down in Cork, Jim Gavin, on the other extreme, has a lot of work to do to make sure that Dublin are focused on the simple things. His process will be tested to the core," said Horan, who also gave his take on Roscommon's win over Down in the Division 2 decider.
