No place for Robbie Keane in John Giles's line-up for the Scotland game

John Giles would like to see Shane Long and Jon Walters leading the line against Scotland in tomorrow night's Euro 2016 qualifier.

Speaking to Off The Ball as always on a Thursday, the soccer pundit gave his take on the Celtic Park clash and what he expects to see.

"I would like to see Long and Walters up front. I don't think Robbie Keane has ever been suited to the lone striker role, particularly now that he's a bit older," said John

"I would prefer to see McGeady in his right position, which I think is on the right wing, either Hendrick or Gibson in the middle with Quinn and McClean across the midfield, with Long and Walters up front. That would be my personal choice."

Although he expects both teams to play at a high pace, he does not think that either side will go over the edge.

He also expects a far more attack-minded approach from Ireland in comparison to the Germany game.

But he "makes Scotland slight favourites to win".

Although John believes James McCarthy could do more in an Ireland shirt, he thinks the Everton midfielder is "still our best bet in the middle of the field and I think we'll miss him."

He also does not expect last night's incident involving assistant manager Roy Keane to have a detrimental effect on the players' performance.

John also reviewed the weekend's Premier League action including Newcastle's recent revival under Alan Pardew, and also put the microscope on Arsene Wenger's recent troubles at Arsenal.
