'I'm pretty disappointed Hanrahan's made the call to go' - Keith Wood

Keith Wood says he is disappointed that JJ Hanrahan has decided to leave Munster for Northampton.

The province confirmed that the young fly-half would be moving to the English Premiership at the end of this season.

"I'm pretty disappointed that he's made that call to go," said Keith on Off The Ball's Wednesday Night Rugby tonight.

"I think Munster have been unfortunate in a variety of different ways which may have limited his game-time somewhat because if you only have two 10s, you can't play them week in, week out."

Gerry Thornley also joined us on the show tonight and said that a move away was in the offing as far back as early December when The Irish Times first ran the story.

"When I broke that story, it was derided because it didn't happen immediately," said Gerry.

"But I know for a fact that at the start of that week he told his fellow team-mates that he was leaving. I actually know that."

Gerry spoke about the lucrative nature of the offer valued at somewhere close to €200,000 which would be a significant pay hike for the 22-year-old.

With the possibility that Jonathan Sexton may return in time to be an option for the Six Nations match against France, Gerry said he would be surprised if Joe Schmidt did not include him in some form.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he started against France in Round 2," said Gerry.

The lads also touched on Connacht's rapid improvement under Pat Lam.

"There seems to be a march to destiny for Connacht," said Keith, who admitted that he had initially been "sceptical" about how Lam would get on at the province.
