'Life goes on, you have to drive on' | Cody reflects as Kilkenny bow out

Brian Cody will have to wait at least another year to secure a 12th All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship title as Kilkenny manager.

His side was beaten by Cork on a scoreline of 1-37 to 1-32 after extra time in their last four contest at Croke Park on Sunday.

Cork looked as though they had the win in normal time before Adrian Mullen found the back of the net with a lovely strike deep into injury time to level it up.

Jack O'Connor scored Cork's goal just before the break of the additional time and that was the turning point of the contest.

Five points was the margin in the end as Cork booked their place in the decider for the first time in eight years.

Speaking to OTB Sports at full-time Cody said it was tough but they couldn't have any complaints.

"There's always a winner and there's always someone who's not a winner in sport.

"It's the All-Ireland semi-final, there was three teams in the championship before the game and now there's two and unfortunately we're the ones after losing out.

"You get on with it, life goes ahead and what can you do except go ahead?

"Of course you'll be disappointed, it doesn't go away very easily but sport is sport and you drive on."

Kilkenny hasn't won an All-Ireland now in six years, which is a real famine to people there.

Reflecting on the game Cody said he felt the goals were the major moments in it.

"We were beaten and the team that wins takes the honour and the glory and they march onto the All-Ireland final.

"The game ebbed and flowed, we had periods of dominance, they had periods of dominance.

"They looked like they had it in normal time and we came back and kept fighting and fighting and got the clincher of the goal to bring it to extra time.

"That obviously gave us a bit of momentum but their goal in extra time was crucial, obviously, so that's the way it went."
