Koepka hopes local knowledge of caddie will help him win The Open

Brooks Koepka believes he's got a big advantage over his rivals at this week's Open Championship because his caddy knows the course inside out.

The world number one's bag carrier Ricky Elliott worked and played at Royal Portrush as a junior.

Koepka hadn't played Portrush before this week but he feels having local knowledge in his corner could be crucial in his pursuit of a fifth major title.

"Luckily my caddie has played this course I can't tell you how many times, that's a big advantage," Koepka said.

"He knows the spots to miss it, the spots to come in from. I will definitely have a lot more confidence having him on the bag this week. I'm looking forward to it.

"I don't think he ever thought there would be an Open Championship here and to top it off I don't think he thought he would be a part of it.

"To be able to win one here, he would be a legend wouldn't he?"

The American has finished second, first and second in the first three majors of this year but he's not satisfied with that record.

“It’s incredible, but at the same time, it’s been quite disappointing.

“Finishing second sucks, it really does,” he said. “But you’ve got to get over it and realize that any time you put yourself in contention, you learn from it and move on.”
