Leeds win race to sign €40m Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno

Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno is poised to complete a €40million move to Leeds United.

The 29-year old has spent the past six seasons at the La Liga club (the first of which, on loan), scoring 59 goals in 220 games.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo's represented Spain since youth level, winning 22 senior caps and scoring 8 times.

Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani led a delegation in Spain attempting to woo the former Real Madrid youth product.

Financial constraints have led Valencia to listen to offers for their entire first-team squad.

Valencia confirmed on Tuesday night that they'd reached an agreement with Leeds, subject to the completion of a medical and relevant paperwork.

After making the loan deals of Helder Costa and Illen Meslier permanent, Rodrigo is Leeds' first true new arrival of the summer.

It won't be his first experience of Premier League football, however. He spent the 2010-11 season on loan at Bolton Wanderers from Benfica.

He found the net just once in 17 appearances under Owen Coyle.

During his time with Valencia, he helped them win the 2019 Copa del Rey, scoring what proved to be the winner in a 2-1 win over Barcelona.

In a parting statement, Valencia expressed their gratitude to the striker for his efforts at the Mestalla, and wished him well at Leeds.
