Former Connacht player Michael Swift says he's disappointed with Connacht after they crashed to a 20-10 defeat in last night's Challenge cup quarter-final against Sale Sharks.

Swift joined Nathan Murphy on the Saturday Panel to speak about the weekend's European rugby fixtures.

Connacht coach Andy Friend has publicly admitted that the priority for the Galway based provincial side is the Pro-14 so they can get a direct route back to the Champion's Cup.

The retired second-row says he was frustrated by the wholesale changes Andy Friend made to his side after the Six Nations.

"He's publically been saying that the priority this year is the Pro-14 but I was personally a little bit surprised, and probably a little bit disappointed with the selection that he went for,' said Swift.

The Connacht boss rested his international players Quinn Roux and Ultan Dillane.

Swift believes the decision to make wholesale changes may affect the teams momentum in a crucial run-in for the Irish province.

"The momentum they created from the great win against Benneton Treviso the week before. They've got a massive showdown against Cardiff in two week's time,' added Swift.
