Niland's backing Murray to sweep past Berdych

If you look at Andy Murray's head-to-head record against Tomas Berdych, it is far from a forgone conclusion that the two-time Grand Slam winner will beat his Czech opponent in the Australian Open semi-finals.

The Scot has won four of their 10 meetings, and lost the last two in 2013. In addition, Berdych, who beat Rafa Nadal in the last-8 could get an inside track on Murray because he is now coached by the 2013 Wimbledon champion's former coach Dani Vallverdu, something Murray has said is a disadvantage for himself.

Former Irish tennis player Conor Niland sees it as an "interesting dynamic" but he told Off The Ball that Murray will have his own plans to counteract anything that comes at him.

"I still think Murray will be able to have a few ideas of his own. I expect Murray to be able to come through it but it will be interesting to see how it goes in the first couple of sets," said Niland, who qualified for Wimbledon and the US Open in 2011.

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic is up against reigning Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka in the other semi, and although he expects it to be tight, Niland fancies the Serb to get through to the final.

He also took a look at the women's draw where unseeded teenager Madison Keys has progressed to a semi-final against Serena Williams after beating Venus in the previous round.
