City pair Mahrez and Laporte test positive for coronavirus

Manchester City have confirmed that Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte have both tested positive for COVID-19.

City say neither player was displaying symptoms of the virus but both players will not be allowed to train with Pep Guardiola's squad as they self-isolate in line with UK government and Premier League rules.

The new season kicks off on September 12th but City are not in action until September 21st due to their involvement in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in August.
Both players are in England and with the self-isolation period being 10 days, Mahrez and Laporte should be available for City's game with Wolves at Molineux in two weeks.

City lost home and away to Wolves last season with Guardiola's side finishing 18 points behind champions Liverpool.

A club statement read: "Manchester City FC can confirm that Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte have tested positive for Covid-19.

"Both players are currently observing a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine. Neither is displaying symptoms of the virus.

"Everyone at the Club wishes Riyad and Aymeric a speedy recovery ahead of their return to training and the new season."
