Jack Byrne named in Republic of Ireland squad for Slovakia play off

Jack Byrne and Derrick Williams have been named by manager Stephen Kenny in a squad of 25 for the matches against Slovakia, Wales and Finland.

It's the first time Shamrock Rovers midfielder Byrne and Blackburn Rovers defender Williams have been named in one of Kenny's squads.

The Euro 2020 playoff semi-final between the Republic of Ireland and Slovakia takes place in Bratislava on Thursday 8th October.

Robbie Brady and Callum O'Dowda have both been included, despite injury concerns over the pair.

O'Dowda returned to training on Saturday, while Brady is nursing a rib injury.

There is no place in the squad for Troy Parrott, who has an ankle injury.

Sean Maguire, Michael Obafemi and Dara O'Shea are also omitted.

The squad will assemble in Dublin on Sunday before travelling to Slovakia on Tuesday.
