Alan Quinlan: "I'm delighted he's back involved, and this is an ideal job for him."

Alan Quinlan has expressed his delighted about the potential return of Declan Kidney and Les Kiss to professional rugby, amidst reports of a return to coaching with Aviva Premiership side London Irish.

The former Irish backroom pairing are being widely reported to take over at struggling side. London Irish are currently rock bottom of the Premiership, 12 points off the pace.

Quinlan says Kidney and Kiss could be a perfect partnership for the struggling Premiership outfit, and their prior coaching partnership with Ireland could implement structure for the Exiles.

Quinlan believes it's an ideal appointment for a club that is lacking direction.

"I'm delighted he's back involved, and this is an ideal job for him. They are lacking that bit of direction. They've probably spent money in the wrong ways. There's a little bit of uncertainty, and they have struggled in the last number of years. He's a real good man to come in and put some structure there, and maybe a bit of guidance,' said Quinlan.

Quinlan says the problems at Ulster Rugby went far deeper than the Australian's role as Director of Rugby at the Irish province.

The former Ireland back-row says the pair still have a huge amount to offer as coaches.

"What they are getting here is two guys who are very experienced. Les Kiss, the Ulster thing. There was more going on in Ulster than Les Kiss role as Ulster director of rugby. It goes far deeper than that; the structures, the players they've signed - lacking a bit of identity. He went into a tough job there. I still think he has a lot to offer."

Declan Kidney last coached Ireland 5 years ago. He is currently Director of Sport and Physical activity at University College Cork.
