This year's French Open tennis is planning to have spectators in attendance when the rescheduled Grand Slam gets underway in September.
The US Open is set to be behind closed doors at Flushing Meadows in August but French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicelli says they're planning for supporters to be able to attend their tournament in the following month.
Over 500,000 tickets were sold for the tournament at Roland Garros before the pandemic forced a postponement. All of those tickets have since been reimbursed but organisers are now planning to put tickets on sale at the end of this month, once they receive guidance from the French government on capacities for sporting events.
"Absolutely", Giudicelli said when asked if he was ruling out the Slam being played behind closed doors. "It will be a number, a percentage which will be defined by mutual agreement with the public authorities.
"This kind of option requires real cooperation with the public authorities. It is still premature to be able to give even an estimate today.
"We'll have several working scenarios by the end of the month and it is only around this time that we will be able to say how we are going to organise and market the tickets. We have not yet made a final decision."
