Kieran Murphy on Cork hurlers - “They’re hungry, they want to achieve and progress”

Cork came from behind to beat Clare 2-24 to 3-19 in a dramatic match to reclaim their Munster title for a second successive season in Thurles. They are now through to the All Ireland semi final where they will face either Wexford or Westmeath.

Following Cork's Munster hurling final win over Clare on Sunday, former player and selector Kieran Murphy joined OTB AM to discuss the win and his role within the team.

“You could see the group really gelling and bonding together. We were in good shape. They’re hungry, they want to achieve and progress. The plan is just keep going, just keep sticking to what we’re doing. You had that continuity taking over from Kieran.”

When discussing John Meyler, Kieran said “He does bring that experience, the one thing John does with the team and management team, He trusts you, if you see something just go do it. We have grown as a management team. The one thing we have is trust in each other.

“We have a fantastic backroom team. My job is to get onto the field which can be a challenge with the fourth official shouting. We have that flexibility. You would have the discussion with Donal, Sean, John and doctor Con and I would take off then”.
