Reaching French Open final is a "dream come true" for Iga Swiatek

Teenager Iga Swiatek has become the first female Polish player in the Open era to reach the French Open tennis final.

The world number 54 followed up her demolition of top-seed Simona Halep in quarters by easing to a straight-sets 6-2, 6-1 victory against Argentine qualifier Nadia Podoroska.

Former Wimbledon junior champions Swiatek is yet to drop more than four games in a set at Roland Garros this year and she now awaits either double Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova or Sofia Kenin in Saturday's decider.

“I’m kind of surprised, really, because I would have never thought before the tournament that I would play so good here," the 19-year-old said on court after her last-four match.

"On the other hand, I always knew that if I’m gonna be in the final of a Grand Slam, it’s gonna be the French Open. So I’m really happy, it’s like a dream come true.”

“I wanted to play this match as if it would be first round. I didn’t want to think this was a semi-final because it would stress me...I don’t know, I feel really lucky that I’m feeling good and nothing hurts me.

"I hope I’m gonna play a great match tomorrow, doubles with my partner, and singles in two days.”
