Rena Buckley shared a shocking story on this morning's 20x20 panel, an initiative set up to champion women and young girls in sport.
Buckley, an 18-time All Ireland champion across football and camogie, told today's audience about a time at a west Cork GAA club where she was asked to present championship medals.
Having both boys and girls teams as part of the presentation, Buckley was asked not to present medals to the club's panel of boys.
"The boys and girls had come together after they had won the U14 championship in ladies football and the U12 in boys football," she explained.
"They asked me to come down and present the medals.
"So I went along and when I got down there on the night, the guy who asked me took me aside and said: 'The GAA team don't actually want you to present the boys with the medals.'
"This was an U12 boys team, you know? That was fine, they got some local guy to do it. He was absolutely mortified. He could hardly look at me he was really embarrassed.
"That's just the mindset of whoever was organising that.
"That's a rare thing, but it does happen. That was in 2017, not 1986."
