Sebastian Vettel to leave Ferrari at the end of the year

Four time Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel is facing an uncertain future after it emerged he is leaving Ferrari at the end of 2020.

The 32-year-old German's contract talks with the Italian team are believed to have broken down.

It's understood Vettel was offered a one year extension to his deal with a salary reduction.

Vettel won all of his world titles with Red Bull between 2010 and 2013, before moving to Ferrari in 2015.

He has failed to reach the Grand Prix summit in the last five years, as Mercedes have dominated the landscape, with Lewis Hamilton winning four world championships and Nico Rosberg one.

Ferrari have signed up rising young star Charles Leclerc until 2024 and it appears he will be their number one driver over the coming years, once the sport can resume.

McLaren's Carlos Sainz and Renault's Daniel Ricciardo are seen as contenders to replace Vettel.

When it comes to Vettel's future in the sport, it has to be in doubt.

Red Bull are unlikely to want another star driver in their team alongside Max Verstappen, while Hamilton has previously indicated he would be willing to stay at Mercedes, as he bids to equal Michael Schumacher's mark of seven world crowns.

Ferrari's last world champion was Kimi Raikkonen back in 2007.
