Taylor at her best as she swats away challenge of Gutierrez

Katie Taylor successfully defended her WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO lightweight belts against Miriam Gutierrez tonight at The SSE Arena, Wembley.

The comfortable unanimous decision win was just the latest achievement of an incredible career that has seen Taylor win five amateur world titles, the 2012 Olympics gold medal, every major belt at lightweight and a super-lightweight title too.

The fight was the first loss of the mandatory WBA challenger's career, who boasted a prior record of 13 wins from 13 fights with five KOs.

Taylor was the heavy favourite going into the fight and that description looked justified throughout as she dominated from the opening bell.

The Bray native started with fierce intensity as she looked to capitalise on her opponent's early nerves. And, within seconds, Gutierrez was pinned into the corner subject to a barrage of Taylor's punches.

Taylor's early tone continued throughout the opening rounds as Gutierrez looked out of her depth.

The fight then flirted with being stopped in the middle rounds, but Gutierrez, somehow, kept standing and swinging, falling only once at the end of the fourth round.

While the Spaniard survived that fall, any punches she landed were little more than consolations, as Taylor's domination continued.

It didn't look likely early on but the fight did go the full 10 rounds eventually as Taylor's intensity faded in the later rounds.

While the decision was little more than a formality after a near-perfect display, Taylor was nevertheless delighted to maintain her belts and undefeated record.

Speaking after the fight, Taylor said: "I am very, very satisfied. I was trying my best to get her out of there but she just kept going. I would have loved to get a stoppage but overall it was a very good performance.

"I hurt her in the first 30 seconds and I thought I could get her down in the first round, but how wrong I was. Credit to her she was very, very tough, very durable and it was a great fight."

Earlier in the night, Terry Harper defeated Katharina Thanderz in the defence of her WBC super-featherweight title.
