Pat Nevin responds to those McQueen comments about Scottish-born Irish players

Swansea's Jefferson Montero skins Calum Chambers down the Arsenal right back zone. Then he does it again. And then another time. Then a few more times.

But Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger does not react nor is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain drafted in to help his full-back more.

Wenger has endured plenty of criticism but it got even more vociferous after the 2 - 1 defeat to Swansea, the second time in a few days that the Gunners have let a lead slip.

Pat Nevin joined us on Off The Ball tonight and he felt that Wenger is too unwilling to make timely changes like his contemporaries.

"You have to compare him to the guys that change quickly like Van Gaal at his very best, we know Mourinho will change like lightning, Sir Alex used to do that. Arsene just has this habit and just sticks by the ideals and doesn't budge," said Pat.

Pat also criticised the consistency of Romelu Lukaku's workrate for Everton after recent poor showings, and homed in on the reasons why Tottenham are getting it so wrong.

The former Scotland international, who has Irish roots, also gave his take on the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifier at Celtic Park.

"I honestly think Scotland are not suited to play against Ireland," he stated, explaining his reasoning tactically.

But he also gave his opinion on former Scotland player Gordon McQueen's comments about Scottish-born James McCarthy and Aiden McGeady's decisions to line out for Ireland.

"It's representative of what some Scottish people feel, but it's not representative of the Tartan Army," said Pat, who believes there will be no trouble between Irish and Scottish fans.
