Ruby Walsh Targeting Punchestown Return

Ruby Walsh is aiming to make his comeback from injury at the Punchestown Festival at the end of this month.

The 12-time Irish champion jockey aggravated a right leg injury in a fall in the RSA Chase on day two of the Cheltenham Festival last month.

Walsh says an x-ray in two weeks time will determine whether he'll be cleared for Punchestown.

He's told Racing UK: "My right leg remains in a boot. Time is the best healer of all and hopefully I have enough of it to be back in time for Punchestown three weeks today.

"I’ll probably have an X-ray in two weeks and see what the story is. I’m hoping they tell me it’s 100 per cent but I’m an optimist.

"The gym would not be my favourite place but you do what you can do for strength and conditioning."

Ruby was also impressed by Un de Sceaux's winning comeback at Fairyhouse yesterday.

"I wasn’t sure watching the Devenish Chase live whether he was going to win or not but I think watching the replays maybe Doctor Phoenix was running out of petrol and that’s probably why he didn’t make the jump two out that Davy Russell asked for.

"He might have just been getting tired and feeling the pinch. I’d say it was a good performance from Un De Sceaux.

"He’s still quite keen at home but in his races he’s definitely calmed down. I guess, like everybody else, horses get more relaxed and slower as they get older."
