Tiger Roll struggles at Cheltenham before being pulled up

Tiger Roll was pulled up at Cheltenham on Friday afternoon.

The two-time Grand National winner had been struggling from a long way out in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase.

Jockey Robbie Power said the 10-year old had been showing "no rhythm".

It was another disappointing display in what was just Tiger Roll's second outing of the season. On his return at Navan last month he placed 6th of 9 horses in the Flower Hill Maiden.

The Glenfarclas itself was won by 22/1 shot Kingswell Theatre for jockey Tom Scudamore and his trainer brother, Michael.

Odds-on favourite Easyland was another to disappoint, being pushed out to 4th.

"He was never travelling and never had a cut at his fences," Power said of Tiger Roll after the race, "I pulled him up as he was in no sort of rhythm."

The latest performances will raise questions of whether Tiger Roll will be able for another tilt at the Grand National when Aintree rolls around in the spring.

Tom Scudamore was obviously far happier with his day's work, saying, "It’s a real family success as my daughter’s done all the hard work on him.

"I’m so proud of the horse, of Michael and a lot of the credit has to go to my daughter Margot as well.

"It’s the second time he’s won this and it’s the first time in a long time he’s had his ground because it’s normally too soft for him around here. It’s great for everybody."
