'The lack of transparency definitely doesn't help'

This week at the Tour de France, Team Sky revealed their belief that their data had been hacked by people convinced that Chris Froome is doping.

The 2013 champion, who is currently in possession of this year's leader's yellow jersey, has always insisted that he is riding clean.

A former team Festina trainer called Antoine Vayer had publicised the data showing Froome's winning performance on Mont Ventoux during the 2013 Tour de France, highlighting power output and heart rate.

Professor Ross Tucker of Science of Sport has written about the subject and joined us on Off The Ball to talk about the relevance of the data.

On the wider health of the sport as it recovers from the Lance Armstrong years, Tucker shared some of his concerns.

"As optimistic as I've tried to be, I just don't see the off-the-bike changes happening. The same kinds of people are still inn positions of influence in the sport in many instances. Some have been moved out but it's the same doctors whose names are coming up - doctors who doped athletes 15-20 years ago and now are expected to be relieved to say that they won't do it anymore. The control of the sport appears to be extremely clandestine to me. The lack of transparency is not unique to Sky. It's prevalent everywhere and I just feel that serves mistrust. You get the sporadic drip feed of positive cases which suggests that all is not right."
