Australian Rugby Union wants to move June test window

The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) is looking to push the international June test window back a month to accommodate Super Rugby.

Since the expansion of Super Rugby to 18 teams, the competition has to stop for a month for the touring northern hemisphere teams to take part in the annual three game series.

Speaking to the New Zealand Herald ahead of the meeting in Dublin, ARU deputy chairman Brett Robinson said: "One of the issues we have with Super Rugby is the mid-season break, we aim to push back the in-bound tours to allow us to have a continuous Super Rugby season.

"That's something we have been lobbying hard for and I think we are gaining some real momentum.

"We met with the French clubs and the English clubs because they have a huge influence on the northern hemisphere's position on those things.

"That is progressing positively. I would hope we would get to a great outcome this year in terms of announcing a change around that."

Australia entertained England in their 2016 June series losing all three tests to Eddie Jones' side. They welcome Fiji, Scotland and Italy for one-off tests this summer.
