Connacht lose trio to season ending injuries

Connacht have confirmed that a trio of players are out for the rest of the season.

Centre Stacey Ili, hooker Tom McCartney and prop Ronan Loughney will not feature on the field of play again until pre-season due to their respective injuries.

Ili and McCartney are both due for surgery this week for respective ankle issues.

Ili suffered his injury against Zebre on April 1st, while McCartney picked up his injury against Edinburgh at the weekend.

Meanwhile Loughney underwent surgery to his injured arm last week. It was an injury sustained in training prior to the Zebre match and he is also out for the remainder of the campaign.

Darragh Leader and James Connolly will both train this week, however ahead of Saturday's Guinness Pro 12 meeting with Leinster.

JP Cooney will also have a minor shoulder injury monitored.

Connacht, who sit seventh in the Pro 12, after edging Edinburgh at the weekend, have three fixtures remaining in the Pro 12 this season.

On Saturday, the reigning champions welcome provincial Leinster to the Sportsground.

On April 29th, Wales' Scarlets also arrive in Galway for the penultimate round of games.

For their final match of the domestic season and their last under their Pro 12-winning coach Pat Lam, Connacht make the trip to Thomond Park to face Munster on May 6th.
