Leinster have this afternoon confirmed that the injured Dan Leavy will play no part for Ireland in the forthcoming 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Suffering a horrendous knee injury in Saturday's Champions Cup quarter-final defeat of Ulster, Leinster explained that although tests had yet to conclude on the extent of the 24-year-old's injury, Leavy would not be capable of returning before the Autumn tournament.

A considerable loss for both Leinster and Ireland, the province alluded to the fact that Leavy is not likely to make a return for the reigning Champions Cup holders until the 2019/20 season is well underway.

Alan Quinlan shared his personal experience of such devastating lows on the back of being injured on this morning's OTB AM.

For Leo Cullen's Leinster, attention will now turn toward Toulouse and a Champions Cup semi-final clash that the reigning holders will have the advantage of hosting in Dublin.
