David Wallace: "It was horrible to watch but then, all of a sudden they just cracked into life"

Former Lions flanker David Wallace felt the Lions turned an important corner during their second test win over New Zealand at the weekend.

Despite being a man down, New Zealand controlled much of the match as the Lions' indiscipline kept the home side's scoreboard ticking over.

Wallace joined Monday's Off the Ball and speaking to Joe Molloy, he said: "I thought they were very good. In fairness, at one stage there was that creaking feeling in the second half after about 60 minutes - it was a little bit like a dying animal. You felt that they could really get into the game but just the amount of penalties was really killing them and they didn't seem to be learning their lesson.

"And, you just thought it was going to be like a slowly dying animal. It was horrible to watch but then, all of a sudden, they just cracked into life and that extra bit of time that Sexton and Farrell had together - things started to click.

"A couple of changes...and they still managed to break down that New Zealand defence and just about get hands away. Elliott Daly, he did very well - he was half through the gap and just managed to get the pass away to get the ball wide.

"And, when they came back, they had acres of space which was great to see because as I said, it was man-on-man at that stage. Maybe the All Blacks had fatigued a bit but listening to (Kieran) Read after the match, he said it wasn't tiredness, so you've got to say well done to the Lions and the way they stuck to their guns and eventually came away with that win."

Former Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan also joined the discussion and full interview can be heard here:
