Eddie O'Sullivan "bemused and disappointed" by Warren Gatland remarks

Last Thursday, at our rugby Roadshow, former Ireland head coach Warren Gatland joined Ger, Brian O'Driscoll and Keith Wood on stage.

The current Wales and two time former Lions head coach touched on his relationship with his former Ireland assistant coach Eddie O'Sullivan, who would later succeed him in the job.

Tonight on Wednesday Night Rugby, Eddie had his say on those remarks from Gatland.

"A bit bemused and disappointed at what he said I suppose, you know," said Eddie.

"I met Warren a couple of times since he left Ireland. In fact, ironically I met him and we spoke as recently as a week ago - last Monday I think - at the IRFU Foundation Sports Awards, so before the [Roadshow].

"And he had an opportunity at that moment to raise any issues that he had with me face to face, man to man, and he said nothing. So then when he went on national radio and recounted those stories, it was disappointing.

"The stories were inaccurate and out of context in my opinion."

Continuing, Eddie said, "I think it's sad that it happened that way. Look, Warren has said many times that he's moved on since Ireland but on the back of those comments it's hard to see that.

"I suppose it's disappointing because for somebody's who's had such a successful career and has been hugely successful as a coach, and to continue to stew over things [from] 16 years ago, it's a pity. But, sure look, I've moved on a long time ago and I thought he had too but there you go."

Eddie discussed a couple of the stories that he had issues with, including the one from the wake of the win in Paris back in 2000.
