Eddie O'Sullivan: The Pro 14 is at risk of becoming a shambles

"It's not fair to the fans" Eddie O'Sullivan reflected when asked about Munster's 51-18 victory over the Cheetahs.

He believes that the novelty of seeing their team run up big scores will wear thin quickly for supporters and that half of the league are at risk of finding themselves well adrift of the leading pack by Christmas.

"I don't think it does the tournament any good to be honest with you," he told Joe Molloy, speaking about the 11th hour addition of South African teams.

After two rounds, the tournament's bottom six teams have racked up only 1 point between them.

The former Ireland boss believes that the expansion of the competition has been "at best ill-timed and doesn't seem to have been thought through."

As the league hopes to add a North American team in the coming years, O'Sullivan believes that if the South African and Italian teams, and the Dragons do not improve the league risks being overrun by dead rubbers - particularly as teams cannot be religated.

While he acknowledged that he may be "overreacting" - O'Sullivan warned that if the league's entertainment levels slide it won't be long before commercial interest in the tournament will suffer.

Leinster duo Isa Nacewa and Jamison Gibson-Park have had to return to Dublin after being refused entry to South Africa ahead of their back to back games against expansion sides.

Both players are New Zealand passport holders, and have not been granted the required visas for entry to the country.

Nacewa and Gibson Park will return to Dublin at the earliest opportunity, with Nick McCarthy due to arrive as a replacement tomorrow.

Leinster face Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, before a meeting with the Cheetahs six-days later.
