EPCR clear Munster of any wrongdoing over Conor Murray injury

Munster have been cleared on any wrongdoing over their handling of Conor Murray's injury against Glasgow Warrior last weekend in the Champions Cup in Scotstoun.

The Ireland and Lions scrum-half left the field for a Head Injury Assessment (HIA) minutes after a tackle. Television replays showed that he may have been knocked out in a tackle.

Murray returned to the field after the HIA test and finished the match. A further HIA assessment after the game was passed by the 27-year-old.

Despite criticism for the handling of the situation. Munster have been cleared on any wrongdoing by the EPCR for their handing of the injury. In a statement released on Saturday, it was revealed that "Murray did not demonstrate any criteria that should have led to his immediate and permanent removal from the field of play".

"The EPCR Untoward Incident Review Group has met on several occasions to discuss the Conor Murray incident in the European Rugby Champions Cup match between Glasgow Warriors and Munster Rugby on 14 January 2017."

"The Group, whilst acknowledging its role is to review the application of the World Rugby Head Injury Assessment protocol, has player welfare at its core. The opinion of the Group is that Mr Murray did not demonstrate any criteria that should have led to his immediate and permanent removal from the field of play. The player underwent further assessment by Munster Rugby's medical team and its specialist advisors and, as such, the decision as to when the player returns to play rests with Munster."

The scrum-half is starting for the province against Racing 92 in the Champions Cup on Sunday evening.
