Ireland recorded a historic first victory over New Zealand in Chicago on Saturday night, ending the All Blacks' winning streak.
Although the team that took to the field that day in 2013 were arguably more talented, the lack of errors being made on Saturday suggested many of Schmidt’s men were doing exactly what he asks of all his sides - maximise their potential and minimise their errors.
They took an early lead through the boot of Sexton, giving them a bright start on a sunny afternoon at Solider Field in Chicago, but New Zealand showed just what has served them so well over their 18-game winning streak.
Schools still set for closure as ASTI talks end with no agreement
Talks aimed at averting the widespread closures of secondary schools across the country have finished with no sign of a breakthrough this evening.
Negotiations will resume tomorrow but it is expected that the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland (ASTI) strike action will go ahead next week.
Today's talks lasted for approximately four hours and they are set to resume at 3:30pm tomorrow.
Islamic State claims Irish man killed in Iraq
The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is working to clarify claims that an Irish citizen has been killed in Iraq.
The Islamic State has claimed that jihadist Abu Usama Al-Irlandi was killed during fighting in the city of Mosul.
In a statement, the department says it is "aware of media reports concerning an Irish citizen in Iraq and is seeking to clarify the situation."
Doctors may strike over "living out allowance"
Non-consultant hospital doctors could be set for strike action should they fail to reach an agreement with the government over the 'living-out allowance.'
The council of the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) - which represents 3,000 non-consultant hospital doctors - voiced their unanimous support for Non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHD) today.
The allowance - abolished in 2012 - entitled junior doctors to a weekly stipend of €61 per week if a hospital did not provide its own free accommodation.
Ten bodies recovered from rubber dinghy in the Mediterranean
Ten bodies have been recovered from a rubber dinghy in the Mediterranean sea off the Libyan coast.
The discovery prompted a huge rescue operation - overseen by the Italian Coast guard - which saw more than 2,000 people rescued.
The Italian Coast Guard said the migrants were picked up in 16 separate rescue operations that saw people pulled from 13 rubber dinghies, two small boats and one large ship.
