Frankie Sheahan: "If 'the Claw' had done that for us we'd be delighted with him"

Frankie Sheahan and Marcus Horan relived the 2002 Heineken Cup final on Off the Ball and were in good spirits about the whole "Hand of Back" incident.

Both the former Munster players agreed that they would have taken any advantage possible to try to win the game and appeared to absolve Neil Back for the infamous incident.

Sheahan even observing "If 'the Claw' had done that for us we'd be delighted with him."

The pair were speaking in the build-up to Munster's clash with their old rivals Leicester in the European Champions Cup this weekend at Thomond Park.

For his part Horan agreed saying: "You look back at the game itself, we didn't do enough to win it. Even the scoreline itself, you need to score tries to win finals and we didn't do that. We didn't do it in 2000 either and I think we learnt our lessons over the years."

"They were hard lessons to learn. I think it made us that bit tougher," he added.

Looking back at the build-up to the game, Sheahan said: "In 2002, I think we were absolutely very well prepared...a lot of people forget this actually but that was a Leicester team when there was no salary caps."

"There have been salary caps since about 2008 or 09. There was no salary caps back then and the level of player that team had was absolutely outstanding," he added.

Munster go into the weekend's match top of their group despite having played only one match so far in the competition. Leicester are a point behind their hosts.
