Healy, Toner and Earls start for Ireland as Payne misses out

Joe Schmidt has named his side for Ireland's Pool D decider with France on Sunday in Cardiff.

Devin Toner returns to the starting XV, with his only previous start in the tournament being in the game against Romania. He replaces the unlucky Iain Henderson, who, despite his man of the match performance against Italy, drops to the bench.

Cian Healy also returns to the front row alongside Mike Ross and Rory Best at hooker, with Jack McGrath having to be content with a place on the bench. The back row remains unchanged with Jamie Heaslip joined either side by Peter O'Mahony and Sean O'Brien.

Conor Murray and Jonny Sexton form the half back partnership with Dave Keaney and Tommy Bowe keeping their places on the wing. Rob Kearney returns from injury to slot in at full back after missing the Italian game, but tellingly Simon Zebo has dropped out of the match day squad all together.

Despite reports of his fitness after missing the Italian game, Jared Payne misses out on selection. Keith Earls retains his place in the starting XV and will join Robbie Henshaw in the centre. It is the first time in this World Cup that Ireland will retain the same centre partnership.

Sean Cronin loses his place on the bench as replacement hooker to Richardt Strauss. In the backs, Luke Fitzgerald is called in as cover. He joins Ian Madigan on the bench.

The team in full is:

Starting XV: Cian Healy, Rory Best, Mike Ross, Devin Toner, Paul O'Connell, Peter O'Mahony, Sean O'Brien, Jamie Heaslip, Conor Murray, Johnny Sexton, Dave Kearney, Robbie Henshaw, Keith Earls, Tommy Bowe, Rob Kearney.

Replacements: Richardt Strauss, Jack McGrath, Nathan White, Iain Henderson, Chris Henry, Eoin Reddan, Ian Madigan, Luke Fitzgerald.
