If it’s October and you’re not going in the right direction it’s a long way to May

Former Irish international Eoin Reddan felt the benefits of retirement last Friday night as he watched Leinster struggle to get past Edinburgh at the RDS:

"I was thanking my lucky stars that I didn’t have to lose two nights sleep over what was going on. You worry as a player … You’re always worried [about] what direction we’re going because if it’s October and you’re not going in the right direction it’s a long way to May going in the wrong direction. You can end up very far away from where you want to be," he told Off The Ball.

He added that both Munster and Leinster will be going full tilt when they meet in the Aviva on Saturday and that he expects the Lions who have returned to their provinces to play with a "bounce" in their step.

Reddan also believes that Rassie Erasmus has done the best that he can to manage the difficult task of leading a province while it searches for his replacement, he also believes that he's been wise to not reveal any details regarding that process to the media:

"He knows he’s taking flak, he knows he’s probably putting himself in a bad position but he’s doing it anyway ... The IRFU have a history in recent seasons of recruiting very well. I think you have got to let them get on with the process. At the same time, journalists are fair enough to push him and probe him but I think watching from the outside I kind of respect the way he is dealing with it all."
