Ireland ladies lose first ever autumn international

Final Score: England 8 Ireland 3

An Izzy Noel-Smith try for England in the 79th minute was enough to break Irish hearts at the Twickenham Stoop earlier this afternoon, consigning Ireland to defeat in their first ever autumn international.

In woeful weather Ireland struggled as England put the pressure on in their new home, but they could only muster a single score in the opening period, with Lauren Cattell kicking a penalty.

The Irish effort improved in the second half but not the scoreboard as Niamh Briggs missed a penalty chance and then they couldn't capitalise when Emma Croker was sent to the bin.

Briggs did draw Ireland level with eight minutes remaining but they presented the English with one more chance, which they took as Noel-Smith dived over after a big maul effort.
