Ireland Women's team win Challenge trophy at Kitakyushu 7s

Despite finishing bottom of Pool B on the opening day of the Kitakyushu 7s, Ireland's Women have rallied to win the Challenge Trophy in Japan.

A winless opening day prompted a response from Anthony Eddy's side, who went on to atone for their defeat to Brazil as well as beat Spain to secure the trophy.

The Kitakyushu 7s - the fourth leg of the HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series - hosted the semi-final of the Challenge Trophy and Ireland were able to exact revenge on Brazil with a 24-5 win over the South Americans.

Tries from Audrey O'Flynn, Megan Williams and two from Sene Naoupu, saw Ireland progress to the final to face Spain.

Williams found herself on the scoresheet once again with a brace of tries, while Naoupu and Stacey Flood also crossed for Ireland.

Ireland remain ninth in the World Series standings, 10 points behind eighth-placed England on 30 points.

Eddy's side now face into the final two legs in Langford, Canada (May 27-28) and Clermont-Ferrand (June 24-25).
