Joey Carbery facing up to four months out with wrist injury

Munster head-coach Johann van Graan has confirmed that Joey Carbery will be sidelined for between two and four months with a wrist ligament injury.

Surgery has been required on the issue which was sustained by the Ireland out-half in last weekend's defeat to Ulster in the Guinness Pro14.

Carbery had only returned from an ankle injury and he now faces sitting out the Six Nations and could also miss the majority of the rest of Munster's season.

"I’m gutted for Joey as an individual," van Graan said at today's press conference ahead of their trip to Racing in the Heineken Champions Cup.

"I care about the players and speaking to him on Monday afternoon when we got the news, obviously it’s not nice news for him.

“He worked hard to get back into the position, he played the full 80 for the first time for quite a while and now he is out for a considerable amount of time.

“That’s rugby, that’s life. He’ll be back, he’s a class man and a brilliant rugby player. He’ll come back stronger, take his time and I can’t wait to have him back in the future.”

JJ Hanrahan's chances of playing in Paris this Sunday are currently rated as 50-50 after he trained individually in Limerick this morning as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Should he fail to prove his fitness then Rory Scannell or Ben Healy will start in the 10 shirt.
