Johnny Sexton claims "a draw would have been a fair result" as Leinster edge out Munster

Man-of-the-match Johnny Sexton felt a draw would have been a fair result after Leinster's 16-13 win over Munster on Saturday evening.

"When you're on your line, with one minute to go, they score a try and they win it. You would have gotten away with it. A draw would have been a fair reflection of the game. They would have taken the three points. They probably felt they needed to take the three (points) in terms of their league position."

Sexton scored all of Leinster's 16 points in the game, including a first half try where he ran into one of the posts on the way over the line. "I just didn't see it. Last minute, I saw it right there on front of me. It looked a bit silly but I was laughing when I saw it on he big screen. Thankfully the ball got down in the end.

The win moves Leinster back to the top of the table, after missing the chance to do so last week in Galway. Sexton felt that head coach Leo Cullen deserves praise for how he has dealt with the team in his first season in charge.

"He's done a great job. It has been a very strange season. I was away for the first four months, then getting thrown back in, before going again for the Six Nations... The coaches are doing a great job. We have plenty of improving to do. We have a couple of young lads in the 23 for the first time this year that are making great impressions."

Despite the close finish to the game, Sexton was delighted to leave with four points and the win. "Obviously it's a big fixture, but we got four points at home, which is what we expect. We move on and try to finish the season as best as we can."

Leinster return to action in just under a fortnight as Cullen's side look to cement their playoff place at home to Edinburgh in the RDS.
